The PrimaryBlogger upgrades have been successful, you should hopefully notice a speed improvement when logged into your blog’s dashboard.
We had scheduled some PrimaryBlogger maintenance time in tonight to update the file system and that meant that some admin pages would not be available. We didn’t expect a) it would take so long, b) it would be so disruptive, c) teachers would still be adding posts to their blogs at 22:30.. We have put it off till midnight when it will start again..

Primaryblogger’s stability should now be 100%. The bug that we isolated was due to a rogue plugin and some compression being applied without our consent. Apologies for the slightly rough 24 hours. We have learned a lot while applying the required fix (rm stupidfilename.php) and we will be having some strong words with the developer.
We feel it’s important to stress that we host over 2000 school blogs on PrimaryBlogger and we have a lot of complex technology in place to ensure we can offer the service free of charge. PrimaryBlogger is far from being an “out of the box” or self hosted wordpress solution. Here is a video explaining a problem we had previously and a bit about the infrastrucure we have in place to deliver your blogs!
We updated PrimaryBlogger to WordPress 3.1.1 on the 9th of April, everything has gone to plan.
Enjoy the new features and access to new plugins! 🙂 Please report any bugs on the community page.
You may of had to wait a short while for PrimaryBlogger to show your blog post. This was due to a bug with our caching server that we are just about getting to the point of stability. We appreciate your patience as we develop this new technology. All of the work we are doing is being released under an open source license and is being shared with the WordPress and Varnish communities and various other websites are now running this config. Thanks again for sticking with us whilst we straighten out these final niggles 🙂
PS All websites have these problems, the reason PrimaryBlogger is free is because we do clever things with technology that means we can use less power/servers/resources!
The login issues experienced by some PrimaryBlogger users has now been resolved, thanks for your patience. We have documented the problem in depth on this blog and here
Some users are experiencing difficulty logging into PrimaryBlogger.
We are currently looking into this.
Just a quick update to say stability has now been restored to PrimaryBlogger. The error was due to 3 things. A) Bad wordpress plugin created b) corrupted MySQL database and c) corrupted backup.
To fix it we had to diagnose the bad database value and diagnose a corrupt backup. We can only apologize for the downtime and put it down to incredibly bad luck.
We have systems in place to stop this happening and we thankfully have daily backups of backups of backups.. (3 levels of backup) and in this instance we needed the third..
Please do get in touch if you can’t access your blog.
