As part of our Employer Supported Volunteering scheme, Technical Support Team Leader Jack volunteered with charity Barnoldswick and Earby Bosom Friends, helping to strip out a newly acquired property before renovations can take place.
The property, in quite a state of disrepair, needed old flooring, fittings, doors, and even a kitchen to be removed so that it’s ready for work to begin to turn it into a new community centre and charity shop. Jack said “It was great to spend a day doing something different, physical and with other volunteers, whilst helping out Bosom Friends who are such an important part of my local community”.
Formed over 20 years ago, Bosom Friends provide invaluable support to anyone affected by cancer in the Barnoldswick and Earby area, holding free monthly support meet-ups where people can come together to share their experiences with those going through the same. They also hold various fundraising events throughout the year and have a charity shop that helps to raise vital funds for their work, which in addition to the support meetings, includes a monthly bereavement group, financial support for families affected by cancer, home visits and hospital transport.
Trustee Sally said “Thank you so much for helping us at 7 Frank Street, we rely a lot on volunteers to help us. We really appreciate your continued support for Bosom Friends. Thank you once again, on behalf of Bosom Friends Trustees”.
